The Bradford Organists association was founded in 1910.
The Association serves a wide area with Bradford as the centre, and meetings are held throughout the surrounding districts.
BOA is affiliated to the national organisation, the Incorporated Association of Organists. (AIO)
As you can see, we are a friendly musical fellowship, open to all, with a particular interest in the classical pipe organ but with meetings covering a wide range of topics, almost all with a musical flavour. Our membership encompasses all ages, abilities, interests and religious affiliations – so you are sure to meet interesting people at our meetings!
We give every encouragement to those wanting to learn the organ, grants may be available for young organists – please contact the Secretary.
In recent years, we have had whole-day excursions to the Cathedrals of Lincoln, Southwell, Beverley, Newcastle, Carlisle, Liverpool, Manchester and Kendal, the organs of East Lancashire, York, Carlisle and Appleby, Chesterfield and Buxton – and more!. We also have “mini-trips” – contact the Secretary for details.
Our programme is wide ranging, with monthly meetings, and includes organ recitals, musical concerts of all sorts, lectures, advice sessions, master classes, “organ crawls” (if you don’t know what that is, come and find out!), socials, and so on. Terry Shires and David Wood made and voiced a pipe “from scratch” for us at one of our meetings – fascinating.
Through our Newsletters, we keep you in touch with organ-related activities in the area, reports of meetings, and other events of musical interest.
A WARM WELCOME AWAITS YOU! If you want to find out more, come to the next meeting or contact the Secretary.
